Sergio Busquets Burgos is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder, and he’s capable enough to decide a game. Sergio Busquets was born on July 16, 1988, in Sabadell, Spain. He’s 34 years old now, in 2023. He started his career at La Masia, FC Barcelona’s junior side. In 2008, The Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets made his debut for the club FC Barcelona, and luckily for him, the team won their first treble and also became the first team to win six trophies in a single season in the history of football. That 2008/2009 season was an excellent one for Barcelona. Sergio Busquets, Andre Iniesta, and Xavi Hernandez, who is currently the manager of FC Barcelona, were considered the best midfield trio in the world; they won three UEFA Champions Leagues together in 2009, 2011, and 2015, and two trebles together at Barcelona. Busquets also participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He participated for the Spain National Team, and luckily they won their first and only World Cup trophy. Immediately after the Qatar 2022 World Cup, he announced his retirement from the Spain National Team. After Lionel Messi's departure from Barcelona, he became the first team captain and ruled the team for two seasons, 2021–22 and 2022–23. As a captain of Barcelona, the first 2021–22 season wasn’t so good for defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets after the club faced a terrible season and ended with trophies, but they got back on their feet slowly. He led the club to win the Laliga Trophy over 19 other clubs, including Real Madrid, Sevilla, Athletico Madrid, and many more, in the 2022–23 season. At the end of the 2022–23 season, he announced his departure from Barcelona and finally left after the season ended with 722 appearances for Barcelona and thirty-one trophies (Three Champions League Titles, three FIFA Club World Cups, Eight La Liga winners, three UEFA Super Cup winners, Seven Copa Del Rays, and seven Spanish Super Cups). What an amazing career he had at Barcelona!
Busquets finally decided to reunite with his longtime friend and former teammate Leo Messi, who announced his intention to move to MLS earlier this month following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain at Inter Miami this summer.
The Major League Soccer club Inter Miami has announced the arrival of the former Spain international on its social media accounts.
According to multiple sources, Barca left-back Jordi Alba has also received interest from Miami and will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks after winning the UEFA Nations League with Spain.
Busquets, 34, held negotiations with Saudi sides Al Nassr and Al Hilal in recent weeks but opted for Miami's offer, which sources say was financially inferior, having previously spoken of his desire to play in the U.S.
Busquets and Messi could yet be joined in Miami by Alba, who reached an agreement with Barca last month to end his contract, which was due to expire in 2024, one year early.
